A couple of years ago I conceived the idea of producing a series of portrait sculptures, in bronze, of contemporary British Poets. This combined my career as a professional sculptor with my interest in writing poetry. Mimi, as well as being a major poet by any standards and one I particularly admire, is also my mentor at the Poetry School.

I asked her to sit for me and she agreed. I was able to work from just one hour’s sitting during which I took some measurements and proportional data from a pro forma chart I have developed over the years. I also took a great many photos by sitting her on a calibrated turntable and taking pictures from straight on, above and below at each rotation of 45 degrees. >> next
